Point72 Key Personnel Departures, Rocky April Turned Into Gains for Multi-Strategy Funds
According to Bloomberg, people familiar with the matter revealed that Yau Ng, the macro portfolio manager of Point72 Asset Management, has retired after working for more than six years at this hedge fund giant with assets of nearly 37 billion US dollars. Additionally, a person familiar with the matter said that Dubai-based portfolio manager Alex Blanchard has also left the firm recently.
In April 2025, Millennium Management secured Steve Schurr, a prominent equities investor from Balyasny Asset Management, with a potential $100 million total compensation package.
Multi-strategy hedge funds, among other genres demonstrated resilience amid volatile markets, achieving notable gains despite broader market downturns, according to Nishant Kumar (Bloomberg).
ExodusPoint led its peers with a 2.8% monthly return in April, outperforming other prominent firms such as Millennium, Point72, and Balyasny, which also reported April gains.
Citadel’s Wellington fund rose by 1.3% in April, bringing its year-to-date return to 0.5%. Other Citadel strategies also advanced, including equities (up 2.2% for April), global fixed income (up 1.2% for April and 4.6% YTD), and tactical trading (up 1.9% for April and 3.2% YTD).
